Take a short detour from the Katy Trail to discover Washington. This four-mile trek will grant you more than lush scenery and river views, you'll also find yourself in the vicinity of 40+ vineyards. Washington is known as the "heart" of wine country and has a food scene to match. After you're done sampling varietals, sample some local culture at one of the town's many art galleries. 

Overview

Washington, Missouri has small town charm and big city amenities…offering both downhome and uptown experiences. This river city sits in the Heart of Missouri Wine Country, just 45-minutes west of St. Louis off I-44 or I-70.  Don’t forget that Washington also has daily AMTRAK Missouri River Runner stops!

Recreation

Amtrak is a great mode of transportation to and from Washington and is the perfect way to facilitate a ride along the Katy Trail as well. Bring your bike on the train, take a quick ride across the dedicated pedestrian path on the bridge, and you can connect to the Katy Trail and bike to another of your favorite destinations!

Washington can be your hub for both the Hermann and Augusta Wine Trails. With dozens of wineries to choose from, there is no doubt that you will find one to fall in love with. With its lodging, dining, shopping, art and history, Washington is the perfect place to call “home” while visiting these designated American Viticulture Areas.

While you’re there, enjoy any of the wonderful dining options. Washington has a variety of cuisine options to choose from; many popular eateries are located in historic buildings with riverfront views. Whether you choose a quick day trip or decide to make a weekend out of it, be sure to visit the lively downtown district. From clothing boutiques, home décor, and even an olive oil and balsamic tasting room, there is something for everyone! 

Activities

Spring through winter, Washington is host to many events, including the BBQ & Bluesfest, Art Fair & Winefest, Cajun Festival, Washington Town & Country Fair, Brewfest, Fall Festival of the Arts and Crafts, Pumpkin Palooza, Holiday Parade of Lights, and Olde Fashioned Christmas. April through October, outdoor music events are offered twice each month. While visiting, make sure to take a stroll on our scenic riverfront trails or relax under our riverfront pavilion along the Missouri River.

All four seasons can be enjoyed to the fullest with Washington’s landscaping and cleanliness; so, bring your camera to capture the beauty that is Washington.
