Warrensburg, MO

Welcome to Warrensburg, MO

Small town. Big soul.

No matter if you arrive by bike or by rail, beautiful scenery, rich history, and unexpected delights await all who roll into Warrensburg, MO. We're known as a small town with a big soul for a reason. We're the University of Central Missouri, five-star accommodations, and a downright charming shopping and entertainment district downtown. We're even the "Home of Man's Best Friend," and to this day, pay tribute to Old Drum, a beloved hunting hound from the 1870s who is credited with being the original pup to inspire the phrase. Want to know why?

You'll have to visit to find out. And while you're here:

Sip Back and Relax

If caffeine is your fuel of choice, head to Old Drum Coffeehouse for a thirst-quenching selection of espresso drinks, teas, smoothies, and old-fashioned soda pops. For a quick sip, visit The Brick House for a drive (or ride) thru pick-me-up that will get visitors on their way.

For adults looking for a slightly stronger beverage, or stick to the suds and see what our local pubs have to offer. Fitter’s Pub is a fan favorite that serves up juicy burgers, deliciously unique pizzas (taco pizza anyone?), and a full selection of draft beers and cocktails. Sit on the patio or try your hand at a game of pool, darts, or even video games.

For a fun time with friends,  it's hard to beat Heroes Restaurant & Pub. You'll find a casual atmosphere and an extensive menu ranging from steak and potato favorites to gourmet burgers and a mystery drink known as the Unknown Hero.

Refuel at Restaurants

More than 100 restaurants call Warrensburg home, and that impressive number covers a gauntlet of global delicacies. Try Zydeco's Southern Soul & Cajun Cuisine for authentic Cajun flavors or Taqueria Habana for fresh Mexican flavors. SPIN! Pizza is known for fresh Italian cuisine and mouth-watering pizzas cooked to perfection in a wood-burning oven.

To treat yourself for all of that peddling you've been doing, Yummy's Donut Palace & Kolache and 118 Cakery  have out-of-this-world sweets that will make those miles well worth your while.

Soak Up the Sights

Whether you're a history buff, a boutique aficionado, or an outdoor adventurer, you'll find plenty to explore. To learn about the rich history of the Warrensburg area, head to the Johnson County Historical Society Museum Complex. Here, you'll find multiple museums and historic sites, including the Miller Smiser Heritage Library and Museum and Elm School, a historic one-room schoolhouse from the 1800s. Learn the local lore of where the phrase "Man’s Best Friend" originated at the 1838 Courthouse, where the famous 1870s Old Drum trial took place. Old Drum's statue still stands faithfully by, and visitors love to stop and say hello to the pup who inspired the nation.

If you're itching to shop for unique treasures and antiquities, head to Those Were The Days for over 55,000 square feet of jaw-dropping collectibles, home goods, clothing, and more. What's more, visitors can craft their very own memento of their time. Oh, and quilters take note: among Warrensburg's many excellent shops, you'll find multiple shops dedicated to quilting, like Primitive Stitches, and Hunters Quilt Mart.

If you're looking for activities with a little more adrenaline, head back into the great outdoors. We have beautiful parks, miles of trails to bike and hike, and 3 lush golf courses to try and perfect your swing. To taste the true difference of locally sourced food, head to Buckeye Acres family-owned farm for "u-pick" seasonal specials like strawberries and blackberries.

Can't make it to the farm? Stop by their booth at the Warrensburg Farmer Market, held downtown on Saturday mornings. And even if you're here on a weekday, be sure to check out our calendar of events. With annual festivals like Dicken's Christmas, July's Freedom Fest, or the Old Drum Festival, you're sure to find something to delight you.

Get a Good Nights Sleep

Nothing beats a hot shower and a soft pillow after a day of riding the rails (or trails) and exploring the town. Fortunately, Warrensburg has accommodations to fit any traveler's needs, like Best Western and Fairfield Inn. You'll wake up refreshed and ready to hit the trails once more.
