Some visitors and staff claim they can still smell cigar smoke lingering in the building long after the last card game ended. \n\n\n\nWe’ll visit the Courthouse Exchange\, where mysterious occurrences have been reported\, including unexplained televisions turning on by themselves and other unexplained activity.Of course\, no Independence ghost tour would be complete without the story of Wild Bill Hickok and the famous shootout. SUMMARY:Independence - 78th Annual Halloween Parade
DESCRIPTION:The Independence Chamber of Commerce hosts the longest-running Halloween parade in the Kansas City area each year on the Saturday before or on Halloween (if on a Saturday). \n\n\n\nThe parade begins at 10 a.m. on the Historic Independence Square. Each year\, the parade entertains several thousand spectators from the area. The parade floats include school marching bands\, community organizations\, dance studios\, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles\, tractors\, classic cars\, and clever costumes. \n\n\n\nThe parade follows a familiar route that rolls through the Square. It begins on Walnut Avenue near Pleasant Street and goes east to Main Street. At Main Street\, it goes north for two blocks\, then west for three blocks on Lexington Avenue\, back to Spring. At that point\, the parade turns north on Spring and goes several blocks (past Truman Road)\, then veers to the northwest on Bess Truman Parkway and ends at McCoy Park.

DESCRIPTION:Now an annual tradition\, our windows come to life with sounds and scenes from the holidays. Shops stay open late and a vendor fair will be in The Luxe Event Space at Maple Ave. and Liberty St. Walk the streets that were part of a Hallmark movie. Watch performances from the KC Women’s Chorus\, Classic Christmas Carolers\, and a handbell choir. There will be scenes acted out from A Christmas Carol and holiday movies. You’ll also find kittens and puppies available for adoption. Hot chocolate will be served at many coffee shops and cafes and special activities will be available throughout the district. Children can visit Santa at the offices of Independence Square Association at 106 S Liberty St. \n\n\n\n6pm – 8pm: Living Windows performances \n\n\n\nAll roads will be closed to traffic during the performances. And a big thanks to all of the businesses\, property owners\, and volunteers who bring the windows to life.
