Join us for an unforgettable journey through the haunted history of Independence, Missouri!

Our ghost tour begins at the 1859 Jail, where murders, violence, and jailbreaks made this one of the most notorious places in town. Many believe the spirits of those who lived and died there have never left.
From there, we’ll uncover the strange stories surrounding the Truman Harpy Clubhouse, where late-night card games, cigar smoke, and unexplained happenings have left their mark. Some visitors and staff claim they can still smell cigar smoke lingering in the building long after the last card game ended.

We’ll visit the Courthouse Exchange, where mysterious occurrences have been reported, including unexplained televisions turning on by themselves and other unexplained activity.
Of course, no Independence ghost tour would be complete without the story of Wild Bill Hickok and the famous shootout. We’ll also share the chilling tale of a man killed by a shotgun whose spirit is said to still wander the Square.

Hear the dark history of the hangings that took place on the Courthouse Square, including the enormous crowds that gathered on nearby Cannon Hill to watch.
And finally, you’ll hear a personal family story about a very special visitor who appeared to my grandmother, one that has stayed with our family through the years.

History comes alive after dark… and some of the stories never really died.

Come hear the legends, experience the unexplained, and see Independence from a whole different perspective.

Downtown Kirkwood’s annual Halloween Walk will be held Thursday, October 29 with trick-or-treating for children from 5-7 p.m. at participating businesses. Trick-or-treat locations are located throughout Downtown Kirkwood and participants will give free candy to children while supplies last.

Kirkwood City Hall, 139 S. Kirkwood Rd., will hand out candy prior the walk from 4-5 p.m.

Start the day with a Costume Contest at Green Street at 9:30 am. Bring the whole family, along with your furry friends of course, to participate in a walking parade at 10 a.m. from City Hall to Howard Station Park. Enjoy games, face painting, a gigantic bubble party from Bubbletastic, and trick-or-treat at participating businesses until noon!

The Independence Chamber of Commerce hosts the longest-running Halloween parade in the Kansas City area each year on the Saturday before or on Halloween (if on a Saturday).

The parade begins at 10 a.m. on the Historic Independence Square. Each year, the parade entertains several thousand spectators from the area. The parade floats include school marching bands, community organizations, dance studios, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles, tractors, classic cars, and clever costumes.

The parade follows a familiar route that rolls through the Square. It begins on Walnut Avenue near Pleasant Street and goes east to Main Street. At Main Street, it goes north for two blocks, then west for three blocks on Lexington Avenue, back to Spring. At that point, the parade turns north on Spring and goes several blocks (past Truman Road), then veers to the northwest on Bess Truman Parkway and ends at McCoy Park.

The Fall Wine Walk is one of Downtown Kirkwood’s favorite traditions! Each year, our historic district comes alive as local shops and restaurants open their doors for an evening of wine tastings, music, and community. Gather friends, enjoy the crisp fall air, and explore all that Downtown Kirkwood has to offer.  A portion of the proceeds will go to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.  Over the past few years, The Downtown Kirkwood Wine Walk has donated $48,266.07 to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

Beginning at 8:40 a.m., holiday shopping, free entertainment, and refreshments will make this day a festive way to begin your celebration of the holiday season.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in downtown Kirkwood at 8:40 a.m. After his grand entrance, Santa will pose for photos inside the train station from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Be sure to bring your camera to snap a photo for your Christmas cards!

Adults will enjoy shopping for holiday gifts offered by Downtown Kirkwood’s unique specialty stores—many of which will feature sales and special offers. The Lucille Rapp Tumblers and Dancers will perform at Station Plaza at noon.
